Alumni Spotlight – Hans Ernst

Hans Ernst, Pharm.D., Pharmacist

AA: Humanities & Social Science, 2002

Holland Patent, NY

I came to NCCC because I was unsure of what I wanted to do as a career and wanted to be located in the Adirondacks. I had so many positive experiences—what stands out to me now, are the relationships I made with the faculty. Dr. Joseph J. Spadaro was a great chemistry teacher and unknowingly helped push me into the field of pharmacy.

At North Country, I was able to do many things; being a part of the men’s soccer team, coached by Larry McFaddin was a great experience, and helped me make lifelong friends.

After graduating from NCCC, I transferred into the Albany College of Pharmacy.

As a pharmacist, I work in both the retail setting and in an inpatient psychiatric hospital.  While, NCCC didn’t necessarily prepare me for the field I am in, however it did prepare me for a life of independence. It was my first time away from home and forced me to grow up and look into a career path. With some guidance from the professors, I was able to narrow down what field of work would suit me best.

The campus was very small but family oriented. The location in the soul of the Adirondacks is timeless and still gives me a feeling of peace when I recollect it. The soccer team I was part of was beyond memorable. All of it, the whole thing, was a great experience.
